Arlington, Va., April 25, 2008 (VNS) -- It is highly unlikely that products made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl) contain bisphenol-A (BPA). BPA was used at one time to stop the PVC resin formation reaction (a "chain stopper"), but as far as the Vinyl Institute is aware, all U.S. and European resin manufacturers discontinued that use several years ago.
BPA is used sometimes as an anti-oxidant in plasticizers for flexible PVC products such as wire and cable insulation that must be rated for high thermal performance. BPA is not known for being used in plasticizers for vinyl products outside the wire/cable insulation market.
